From cold calls to leadership: Anya van den Berg’s journey blends data, mentorship, and marathon grit to inspire across the financial industry.
Born and raised in Winchester, England, Anya van den Berg’s early interests spanned Art, Chemistry and Biology – disciplines she later combined through a degree in Ergonomics. What began as a summer job as a personal assistant to a sales director soon turned into a career-defining moment: “I picked up the phone, terrified I’d be useless and quickly realized I love connecting with customers and bringing in revenue,” Anya recounts.
Her sales career has taken her to London and Hong Kong, across major international firms, before she joined Deutsche Börse Group’s Analytics Sales team within Market Data + Services in London in 2020. With 17 years of experience in data and technology within the financial sector, she was promoted to Head of Analytics Sales globally in January 2024. She thrives on engaging with customers and prospects, raising awareness of Deutsche Börse’s datasets and services. She especially enjoys offering trainings to other sales teams and explains: “To me, Deutsche Börse is like a family. Everyone pulls together and collaborates.”
Recognition That Reflects Her Impact
Anya’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. Her accomplishments include five Women’s Industry awards and the “Exchange Professional of the Year” award at the 2024 Women in Data and Technology Awards. Her first accolade, the CEO Circle award at Thomson Reuters in 2014, remains her most cherished. It included an all-expenses-paid trip to Mauritius. “That’s where my husband proposed. It was a very special moment in my life,” says Anya.
Beyond her professional success, Anya is a passionate mentor. Through programs like “Women in Banking and Finance” and “Women in Financial Markets”, she supports women navigating the industry. “Helping others and building up a mentee’s confidence gives me immense satisfaction.”
Driven on the Trail and in Life
Outside the office, Anya finds motivation on the trails – often accompanied by her labrador, Whiskey. In April, she completed the London Marathon in memory of her late friend Suzie and raised £4,000 for the British Heart Foundation. “Crossing the finish line was the best feeling in the world,” she says. “Running in Suzie’s memory really spurred me on.”
Training has had a lasting impact. “It’s taught me that I can still surprise myself and achieve more than I realize,” she reflects. “I try to approach everything – both personally and professionally – with that same perseverance.”
Anya’s next challenge is a half-marathon in November, but her ambitions don’t stop there. With Deutsche Börse Marketplace on the horizon and the Analytics Product Suite expanding rapidly, she is focused on driving revenue growth and fostering cross-divisional innovation and collaboration.
What motivates her most? “Making my family proud,” she says. Balancing a thriving career with raising her 7-year-old daughter is no small feat, but Anya embraces it wholeheartedly. “It’s challenging yet rewarding. I hope to inspire my daughter by leading through example.”
