Video Series: A commentary on the Eurozone Economy

Global capital market relief at the result of the first round of the French election prompted some impressive rallies in equity markets around Europe, while fixed income markets also saw sharp corrections. With multiple upcoming events on the horizon in Europe, it has become crucial to understand, prepare and decide on how to position oneself going into these dates. In an informative video interview, Michel Martinez, Chief Europe Economist at Societe Generale looks at political risk and the economic outlook in the Eurozone in light of the French elections.

In the second part of the series, our product experts will share their view of the markets and highlight what products may be used to leverage event-driven volatility and manage interest rate risks. Michel Martinez joined SGCIB in 2010 as Chief France Economist within the Global Economics Team and was appointed Chief Euro Economist in 2013.

Before joining SG CIB, he worked at the French Treasury in 1994-1995 then taught economics at the University of Cergy-Pontoise until 1998. From 1998 to 2006, he worked for economic research institute Coe-Rexecode, a French think tank, where he was promoted to Deputy Director and published several reports on the French economy and economic policy. Michel is a graduate from Ecole Polytechnique and holds a PhD in Economics from the Paris School of Economics.
